This Christmas, London-based agency Wunderman is asking you to help the homeless but not in the usual fashion.

Rather than donate money or give food, Wunderman together with the C4WS Homeless Project has announced that this year, socks are the best way to help those on the streets.

The Give A Sock initiative is aimed at helping those sleeping rough in the London borough of Camden. You can either donate just the one pair or order a Sock Sack from the website and collect as many as you can.

In a promo from the agency, a group of people from different backgrounds reveal their plans to donate socks this Winter, explaining how this small contribution could help not just by keeping the homeless warm but also to ward off disease.

“Socks at Christmas are as traditional as roast turkey, knitted jumpers and nan asleep on the sofa,” says the agency’s ECD Ian Haworth. “But like most people we’d never really thought about socks as a critical item for people sleeping rough. So when C4WS told us that socks are one of the least donated items, we knew that instead of the standard charity Christmas Card we wanted to do something much more practical.”

The agency will hold a range of events to support the initiative, such as the Christmas Jumper and Sock Competition and challenging stylish adland folk to upload their socks onto social media using the #GiveASock hashtag. It hopes to raise awareness of the campaign and collect as many pairs of socks as possible from various organisations - as the campaign closes on Jan 16 and Sock Sacks will be collected on this date. The largest donation to be received will win a mystery prize... which we've been promised is not a sock.
